In the final Carl Hammer Gallery exhibition of the 2009 - 2010 season,
curated by Yolanda Farias-Jones, we confront the notion of how the camera
has a unique way of seeing things that lie beneath the surface of what is
actually visible at a casual first glance. In The All-Seeing Eye, we are
privileged to expand on our comprehension of what we see from the
effective insights directed to us by the artists in this exhibition.

Posted: 2010-07-09 09:51:15 ROBIN DENEVAN "River Perspectives: Encaustic Paintings from the Yangtze and Amazon" Opening reception - Friday, July 9, 5-8pm. Artist will be present at the reception. Exhibition continues through August 30, 2009 Encaustic Artist Robin Denevan employs layers of beeswax, oil paint, and natural resins to create visions of exotic locations from Asia and South America. The paintings glow with an inner light, and transcend categories of "abstraction" and "realism". Denevan's latest work was inspired in part by his travels to China's Yunnan Province. His paintings are based on drawings he did of the Yangtze River in an area that will soon be dammed and flooded. These paintings are not about mere recollection. They are about sensory recall. You don't just look at a Denevan, you touch it, smell it, nearly taste it. The layers of seductive materials in these works engage our senses, and in doing so, they drop us, not into the location depicted, but into the artist's own vivid memories of that place. Addington Gallery is located at 704 N Wells St in the River North Gallery District of Chicago. Copyright © 2000 - 2010, Chicago Art Net (http://ChicagoArt.Net). |
